Tim Winter has lived in WNC for nearly 5 years and can be seen playing bass and guitar around the greater Asheville area as well as the Upper State region of South Carolina. Tim started playing guitar in his early teens and shortly thereafter fell in love with jazz. He attended the Guitar Institute of Technology in 1979. About that same time he started playing viola and obtained a BA in Music at the University of Puget Sound. He started playing bass while in Austin Texas about 10 years ago. Tim not only plays jazz, he is a composer too writing original jazz works that can be heard with several groups that he plays with and most recently his first "classical" piece, String Quartet No. 1, was performed in Asheville at the Fourth Annual Composers Concert last July. He currently lives in Saluda with his wife Susan and 7 dogs.
